A minimum order quantity can feel like a wall. It is not a negotiating trick: it comes from materials, finishing batches and production planning. Once you see where it comes from, you can design an order that fits it.

Transport per emportar claus

  • MOQ protects the factory from costs that do not shrink when the order does.
  • It can be set per model, per colour, per material or per container, so ask which one applies.
  • Shared materials and finishes across models are the strongest lever to lower it.
  • A staged first order is often better than forcing a very low MOQ.

What actually sets a minimum

Four things behave like fixed costs. They exist whether you order ten pieces or a hundred. The bars below are a rough guide to their relative weight, not a measurement, and they vary by product.

Wood and fabric are bought in lots, finishes are mixed in batches, jigs and patterns must be set up, and a production line has to be scheduled. Spread over a small quantity, those costs make each piece expensive, so factories set a floor.

How MOQ is usually written

Tipus Significat Situació típica
Per model A minimum for each design Complex or made-to-order items
Per colour or fabric A minimum for each finish or upholstery Finishing and fabric batches
Per comanda A minimum value or total pieces Catalog items made often
Per contenidor Orders sized to fill a container Export-focused factories

Six honest ways to lower it

  1. Share materials and finishes.Use one wood and one finish across several models so purchases and batches add up.
  2. Choose a standard colour.Custom colour matching adds a batch; a standard finish does not.
  3. Mix models in one order.Ask whether the minimum applies to the total, not each model.
  4. Accept a longer lead time.Waiting for the next production cycle lets the factory combine your order with others.
  5. Simplifica el disseny.Fewer special parts means less setup. Small changes often keep the look.
  6. Stage the order.Place a first batch now and repeat later. See how the sample stage fits in.

Demana una cotització

Quote the MOQ together with the lead time and the price break. A slightly higher quantity often lowers the unit price enough to be worth it, and it helps you fill a container more efficiently.

MOQ and your own brand

If you build a collection under your label, MOQ planning matters even more, because every extra colour multiplies the batches. Read our guide to starting a private label furniture line and see the wholesale, OEM and ODM options oferim.

Preguntes freqüents

Is MOQ negotiable?
Often partly. Factories can lower it when materials or finishes are shared across models, when the design is simple, or when the order is staged. A lower MOQ may come with a higher unit price or a longer lead time.
Is the MOQ per model or per order?
It depends on the supplier and the product. Some set it per model, some per colour or fabric, and some for the whole order or container. Always ask which one applies.
Do samples have a MOQ?
Samples are usually made one piece at a time and priced separately from production. Ask how the sample cost is handled if you place an order.
